Infineon Raceway will celebrate 40 years of racing during the 2008 Big O Tires Racing racing season, as the Sonoma Valley facility once again hosts the most diverse racing schedule in the country.

Highlighted by the 20th consecutive visit by the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, the raceway will boast six major events in 2008, ranging from the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series to the IndyCar Series. The raceway will also celebrate its 40th anniversary with a variety of exciting events.

The 2008 schedule will be headlined by the Toyota/Save Mart 350 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, June 20-22. Juan Pablo Montoya made history at Infineon Raceway in 2007 when the former Formula One driver claimed his first NEXTEL Cup Series victory.

"It is remarkable to see how far this facility has come over 40 years, from a simple country track with a limited schedule in the late ‘60s to a fully-realized spectator event facility in 2007, hosting the most diverse schedule in professional motor racing," said Steve Page, president and general manager of Infineon Raceway. "As we look back and savor the classic moments of the last four decades, we do so with the realization that the most exciting chapters in the raceway's history are probably yet to be written."

In addition to NASCAR, the upcoming season will again feature world-class drag racing, with the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series for the 21st annual FRAM Autolite NHRA Nationals (July 25-27). Three professional track records were shattered last year, including a 326.79 mph blast by Funny Car driver Mike Ashley. Infineon Raceway continues to be one of the quickest and fastest drag strips in the country, and similar results are expected for 2008.

The newly-unified IndyCar Series and the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series will also return to Infineon Raceway for the Grand Prix of Sonoma County (on August Aug. 22-24). Scott Dixon claimed his first Infineon Raceway victory last year.

Two-wheel racing will once again kick-off the 2008 season at Infineon Raceway, as the Kawasaki AMA Superbike Showdown, presented by Supercuts, takes center stage, May 16-18. This will mark the 19th consecutive year the AMA has visited the Sonoma Valley.

The season concludes on October 17-19 with the Monterey Sports Car Championships featuring the American Le Mans Series. Short of going to France for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the best way to see the high-tech Le Mans Prototypes and GT cars is in this four-hour endurance challenge. The Saturday afternoon race features Prototypes from Audi, Porsche, Mazda, Acura and others battling on the same track with production-based GT cars from Corvette, Porsche, Ferrari and Panoz.
