MAZDA RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA
2010 Season of Racing

The Monterey Peninsula's love affair with world-class racing traces its beginnings to the inaugural running of the Pebble Beach Road Races in 1950. Those sports car events quickly outgrew the public roads and a beautiful new road racing facility was born on Nov. 9, 1957.
Since then the race track has been visited by some of the most prestigious racers in history: Jimmy Clark, Dan Gurney, Stirling Moss, Roger Penske, Jackie Stewart, Bobby Rahal, Wayne Rainey, Kenny Roberts and Valentino Rossi.
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca's racetrack is an 11-turn, 2.238-mile jewel, and while the track is a favorite of racers and fans worldwide, many focus on one specific section: Turns 8 and 8A, known as "The Corkscrew."
The season opener for Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is the American Le Mans Series on May 21-23. This six-hour race, complete with fireworks, will be the last appearance for the series before the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The American Le Mans Series, via support of the U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, has emerged as the global leader in "green" racing. Not only do all race cars compete using alternative fuels and/or powertrains (clean diesel, E85, E10, E10-electric hybrid), but the series' innovation in technology with domestic and international automobile manufacturers is changing the paradigm of motorsports as manufacturers that race in the series develop fuel-efficient technologies for future customer cars.
The next event is the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix on July 23-25, and it marks the sixth consecutive visit for MotoGP to the historic circuit. But what is exciting is that World Superbike champion/AMA champion Ben Spies moved to MotoGP and joins fellow Texan Colin Edwards on the Tech3 Yamaha Team.
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca has a rich history of motorcycle racing, from Cal Rayborn riding to victory at the first AMA race in 1972 to Nicky Hayden on his MotoGP victory lap waving the American flag in 2005.
The Pre-Reunion (Aug. 7-8) and the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion (Aug. 12-15) are among the crown jewels of the Monterey Weekend by showcasing authentic and exciting on-track activities that can only be experienced at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is honoring one of the legends of motorsports with "Dan Gurney: The Cars He Built, the Cars He Drove."
More than 400 historic racing cars will compete in 18 groups. This year's featured races are Formula 1, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year; Trans-Am; and for the first time ever, stock cars (with drum brakes) that competed between 1959 and 1975. Additionally, there will be a dedicated grid of Bugatti race cars in the Bugatti Grand Prix.
